Opposition leader Raila Odinga has taken a jab at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following his recent impeachment.
During a political event in Vihiga on Sunday, December 1, Raila mocked Gachagua by referencing a past statement made by the former DP about setting traps at State House to keep him from gaining access to President William Ruto.
According to Odinga, Gachagua had promised to ensure that the opposition leader would not have unrestricted access to the President, but Odinga claimed that the “traps” ended up backfiring.
“I recently heard someone bragging about setting traps everywhere, saying no one could get through.
What kind of traps are these? He set a trap at State House, claiming there would be no handshake or coalition. Where is he now?
Where is Gachagua now?” Odinga said, mocking the former DP.
Previously, Gachagua had publicly stated that he had set traps to prevent Raila from joining the government.
He was firm in his opposition to any potential coalition or relationship between Raila and President Ruto.
“I’ve set traps at State House, in every corner. I have people who will inform me if anyone is seen near there.
We can’t allow someone who has ruined four governments to be part of a fifth,” Gachagua had said.
However, he later revealed that he had removed the traps after realizing that President Ruto seemed to be warming up to Raila.
“My boss and I had agreed to set traps to prevent Raila from joining the government through the back door.
I would check them every morning and evening,” Gachagua explained.
On Sunday, November 24, Gachagua also disclosed that he had fallen out with the President over his opposition to the Adani deal regarding JKIA.
He claimed that he had warned Ruto about the shady nature of the deal, but the President accused him of not supporting government initiatives.
“I speak for the people. The Adani deal was one of the reasons the President and I fell out. I told Ruto it was auctioning the country, and the people didn’t want it. He hated me for it,” Gachagua said.
