Woman Found Murdered In Kisii, Son Linked To Prior Dispute Over An Axe

Detectives are investigating the murder of a 50-year-old woman whose body was discovered in her house in Kisii South Sub-County.

The deceased, identified as Norah Bitengo Morema, was found dead on Sunday morning at her home near the Riana area.

According to the police, the discovery was made by her sister-in-law who had gone to check on her at around 9:00 a.m. after noticing unusual silence.

She found the door locked from the outside without a padlock. Upon entering the house, she discovered Norah lying on the floor, covered with a Maasai shuka.

Neighbours who responded to the scene confirmed that the woman was dead.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased had reportedly quarrelled with her son on the previous night over a missing axe she had recently purchased.

The body bore visible injuries on the head and face, while the right leg was broken at the knee joint, suggesting a violent attack.

The body was moved to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination.

Police have intensified investigations into the incident, with the son expected to be a key person of interest. Police said they were looking for the suspect.

According to police, the body was found at the Riverside area within the township at around 7:30 a.m. Police officers who visited the scene observed that the victim had sustained multiple injuries, including severe head wounds and deep cuts on both hands.

Authorities described the killing as heinous, noting that the extent of the injuries suggests a violent attack. However, the motive behind the murder remains unclear.

The scene was processed by investigators, and the body was later moved to Transmara West Sub-County Level 4 Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
