The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has detained 11 officials from the Vihiga County Government as part of an investigation into the alleged embezzlement of Sh. 17 million designated for the establishment of a Blood Transfusion Centre.
In a statement released on Thursday, the commission revealed that the individuals arrested include the Chief Officer for Medical Services, Dr. Arnold Kimiyia Mamadi, and the Director of Procurement, Godfrey Oyaro.
These officials are among the 11 suspects expected to appear before the Kakamega Anti-Corruption Court on Thursday.
A 12th suspect, Principal Quantity Surveyor Eugene Wandera Wamalwa, is currently evading capture.
The EACC has instructed him to surrender at their Regional Office in Kisumu.
Confirming the arrests, EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi stated, “The suspects embezzled public funds amounting to Sh.17 million through payments for non-existent works in purported construction of a Blood Transfusion Centre in Vihiga to help patients requiring blood transfusion.”
The detained officials spent the night at Kisumu Port Police Station and will be brought before the Kakamega Law Courts to face charges.
