Four suspected cattle rustlers were Saturday shot dead by police in Laikipia County.
Police said the four died on the spot during a shoot-out that happened at Posta area in Relit village, Kirima sub-county on Saturday, February 5, 2023, at about 3 pm.
A team of security officials was following raiders who had raided cattle from Mugie ranch intercepted when the clash happened.
This prompted a shootout whereby four bandits were fatally injured, police said.
Police said they recovered a G3 rifle with an empty magazine, an M16 assault rifle with a magazine of eight rounds, an AK47 assault rifle with an empty magazine, and four double pouches of an AK47 from the scene.
The bodies were removed to Nyahururu level 4 hospital mortuary awaiting identification and postmortem.
No injury was reported on the side of security personnel during the clash, police said.
The area is facing pressure from bandits seeking cattle and pasture.
Many of them had been driven off private ranches in an operation last year. And with prolonged drought, many expect their defiance and return hence clashes.
