Police are investigating an incident where a 31-year-old woman was brutally murdered in Muthathia area of Buuri West, Meru County, on Thursday morning while reportedly heading to the toilet.
The deceased, identified as Charity Kinya, was attacked at around 5am near Full Gospel Church, police said.
Kinya had woken up and was walking towards the toilets within a rental compound when she was allegedly attacked by an unknown assailant.
Police officers who visited the scene found her lifeless body lying in a prone position near the gate leading to the toilets.
Preliminary investigations indicated that she had sustained deep injuries to the head and the right side of her hip. Police suspect she was attacked with a sharp weapon, possibly a panga or
sword.
Kinya had reportedly lived in the rental compound for about one month.
Investigators suspect the killing could be linked to a love triangle, although police said investigations were ongoing to establish the exact motive and circumstances surrounding the murder.
A black back cover believed to belong to a button phone was recovered at the scene and taken as part of the evidence.
The scene was photographed, processed and documented before the body was moved to Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a post-mortem examination.
Police have launched investigations to identify and arrest the suspect behind the killing.
And police in Kilifi County launched investigations after the body of an unidentified man was found dumped in a ditch at Nguzo Ishirini area of Rabai Sub-County.
The body was discovered on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at around 11am, police said.
Police found the naked body of a middle-aged man, believed to be in his late 40s, lying in a ditch about 10 feet deep.
The man had suffered a deep cut to the neck, which police believe was inflicted using a sharp object. The body is suspected to have been dumped at the scene after the man was killed elsewhere or along the road.
Police said there were no other visible injuries on the body and no exhibits were recovered from the scene.
The motive for the killing had not been established by the time of the report, while the identity of the deceased remained unknown.
The body was moved to the Coast General Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending identification and a post-mortem examination.
Detectives have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify those responsible.
Elsewhere, police in Makueni County have launched investigations after the head of an infant was found abandoned beside a road in Ngaikini Sub-location, Kibwezi Sub-County.
The gruesome discovery was reported on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at around 12:30pm after members of the public alerted a village elder, about the human remains.
The police officers processed the scene and recovered the infant’s head, which was taken to Kambu Sub-County Hospital mortuary for preservation.
Police said the remains may undergo DNA sampling to help establish the identity of the infant and assist investigators in determining how the child died and how the body part ended up at the roadside.
Investigations have been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the discovery and identify those responsible.
