There was a tragedy at a village in Kiambu when a group that was attending a wedding ceremony drowned as they sang and danced in an underground water tank.
Six of the victims including children died after the lid of the tank collapsed drowning them, police said.
The incident happened Saturday morning at Kihunguro, Ruiru, Kiambu County.
Police said the group including children had arrived at a residence for a wedding ceremony when they stopped on a concrete tank and ventured into a dance.
According to police, out of the weight of the group, the concrete lid of the tank collapsed drowning them.
This sent an alarm as those who witnessed rushed to save them.
One child died on the spot as the other group was rescued to hospital.
Police said five others were confirmed on arrival at the hospital in Ruiru.
A team of fire brigade from Kiambu rushed to the rescue of the group that had been trapped in the underground water tank.
This sent the wedding into disarray. Police said they are investigating the tragedy.
