A notorious robbery with violence suspect was Monday morning arrested in Ngara area, Nairobi, and a pistol with 12 bullets was recovered from him.
Police identified the man as George Gitau, 30 who was wanted for robbery cases in the city.
He later called his wife who brought a pistol she kept in their house. She was arrested too.
Police said they had been tipped off that Gitau usually walks with a pistol and detained him along Desai Road.
After interrogation, he confessed he had a gun and it was in his house in Mowlem.
He called his wife and asked her to bring the weapon to Pangani where she was also arrested.
She brought the Walther pistol that had 12 bullets.
Police have since sent the weapon to the ballistic experts for analysis.
Police said they want to understand if the weapon had been used in any of the robberies or murders in the city.
The two were Monday, June 5 expected in court for miscellaneous application to detain them pending further probe.
Cases of robberies have been on the rise in the city with police struggling to contain the trend.
Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei says they have employed more tactics to contain the trend.
This includes more patrols.
