A police officer was Tuesday arrested after claiming he assaulted his friend in Makongeni area, Nairobi.

The constable of police attached to Muthithi police station in Murang’a county is also accused of selling a digital occurrence book tablet to the complainant.

The complainant returned it to Makongeni police station after realizing the gadget was government property and he could not use it.

This angered the officer leading to him assaulting the complainant who claimed he paid him Sh5,400 for the gadget.

The complainant reported the matter to police after the March incident prompting a probe.

The officer was later traced and arrested at his workstation. Police said he initially worked at the Makadara Law Courts.

Police said he will be arraigned before Makadara law court on Thursday for a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm contrary to section 251 of the Penal Code.

The Internal Affairs Unit is still investigating him over the claims of misconduct and the sale of the gadget.

Cases where police are involved in crime have been on the rise amid calls for action to stop the trend.

Police say the cases are isolated and that they are being addressed internally.
