Body Of 49-Year-Old Man Retrieved From Kipkaren River In Lugari, Kakamega


Police in Lugari Sub-County have launched investigations after the body of a 49-year-old man was found in Kipkaren River.

The deceased was identified as Wickliffe Lusamukha Wabuche, 49, who was reportedly spotted in the river before authorities were alerted.

Police officers visited the scene and retrieved the body from the water. Preliminary examination revealed no visible physical injuries on the deceased.

The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to Village of Hope Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.

The matter is under investigation by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Lugari.

Authorities have urged members of the public with information that may assist in the investigations to report to the nearest police station.

Elsewhere, police in Baringo Central Sub-County have launched investigations following the discovery of the body of a 57-year-old man in Endo River in what is being treated as a suspected drowning incident.

The incident was reported on Tuesday morning after the body was spotted in the river within Salawa Division, approximately 45 kilometres west of Kabarnet Police Station.

A team of detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and police officers from Kabarnet Police Station, led by Inspector Peter Musee, visited the scene and established that the deceased was Joseph Chesang, a resident of Kapsang Village.

Police noted that the body had a visible injury on the upper part of the head, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding the death.

The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to the Baringo County Referral Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Investigators say the autopsy will help determine the cause of death and whether the head injury was sustained before or after the suspected drowning.

And a 19-year-old casual labourer contracted by Kenya Power has died after sustaining serious injuries while working on a power line project in Uriri Sub-County, Migori County.

The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at Got Kolima Village in Got Uriri Sub-location, South East Kanyamkago Location.

According to police, the deceased, identified as Maurice Oiro Ochieng, was part of a team undertaking power-related operations when a utility pole reportedly swayed and struck him.

He sustained severe injuries to the right side of his head and neck and was rushed to Migori Level IV Hospital for emergency treatment. However, he succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment.

The incident was reported to police by the victim’s father, Fedinard Ochieng Luo, 45.

Police officers visited the scene and established that there were blood stains on the ground near a fallen pole believed to have caused the fatal injuries.

Officers later visited the hospital mortuary, where the body had been transferred for preservation pending a post-mortem examination.

Police noted that the deceased had visible injuries on the right side of the head and neck, with blood observed oozing from the ears and nose, indicating the severity of the impact.

Investigations have been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the workplace accident, including whether all safety procedures were followed during the operation.
