Policeman Arrested After Shooting Dam Intruder In Baringo

A police officer was disarmed and arrested after he shot and seriously wounded a man who intruded into a dam he was guarding in the Saringo area, Baringo County.

The officer reported he was guarding Kirandich dam when he was accosted by one Kelvin Kimaiyo who tress passed to the facility.

He said he fired warning shots from his G3 rifle but the suspect charged toward him while armed with a stone prompting him to shoot him.

The victim was rushed to Baringo County referral hospital for treatment.

Police said they recovered four spent cartridges of 7.62mm at the scene.

The said officer was disarmed and placed in custody. Police are investigating the October 23 incident.

Cases of police misusing their guns are on the rise amid a push to address the menace.
