Police are investigating an incident in which a principal of a school in Kisii said he lost Sh500,000 that had been locked in his car.
The principal of St Pauls’ Gekano High School said he had withdrawn the cash from Absa Kisii Branch and went to a restaurant for lunch.
He told police he was in the company of the school bursar identified as Evans Onkoba when the incident happened Tuesday, March 14 afternoon.
According to police, the two had been to the bank and withdrew the Sh500,000 before driving to the Diploz Bar and Restaurant for late lunch and parked their salon car outside the joint.
They told police they left the money inside the vehicle stashed inside a brown envelope placed on the back seat and walked into the restaurant.
And after finishing their lunch they walked back to the car only to find the rear window broken.
They opened the car and realized the money was missing.
Police were called to the scene and said they had launched investigations into the same.
A review of CCTV footage at the scene did not bear any fruit.
This is after it emerged the location of the cameras was far and did not capture the incident.
Police suspect the stealing was a collusion of many other parties.
There are suspicions the two were trailed from the bank to the location where the incident happened.
“It is not easy for thieves to just break into such a car without prior knowledge of the contents therein. This is a collusion of many other parties,” said an officer aware of the probe.
No arrest or recovery made so far.
