Tragic Fire Claims Life Of 2-Year-Old In Kirinyaga

In Kirinyaga County, a heartbreaking incident is under investigation as a 2-year-old child lost their life in a fire.

The unfortunate event unfolded in Kibai village, Ngariama Ward, according to Johnson Wachira, the Gichugu sub-county police commander.

The toddler was inside their home with a sibling who suffered severe injuries when the fire erupted.

The mother had left the children alone, only to return and find their wooden house engulfed in flames.

Daina Wanja Muriithi, the distressed mother, shared her shock, saying, “I was shocked beyond words. I could not believe what I saw.

I raised the alarm, and neighbors came in droves.”

The quick response of neighbors spared the 4-year-old boy, but he suffered serious burn injuries in the process.

Rabina Njoki, a resident, recounted the difficulty they faced trying to extinguish the rapidly spreading fire.

“We tried our best to rescue the baby, but our efforts were futile.

It was a sad sight,” Njoki added.

Relatives, including John Mugo, Terry Wawira, and Loise Wambura, consoled the grieving mother at the scene.

We received a call that my sister’s house has caught fire, and her baby has died.

We rushed here to be with her,” they expressed.

Meanwhile, the 4-year-old boy was promptly taken to Embu Hospital for treatment, while his sister’s body was transported to Kerugoya Referral Hospital mortuary. The community is left grappling with the tragic loss as authorities continue to investigate the incident.
