Explosion At Embakasi Gas Filling Station, Multiple Injuries Reported

A significant explosion jolted the Embakasi estate in Nairobi on Thursday night, resulting in numerous injuries as victims were swiftly transported to nearby hospitals.

Caught on camera by residents, the midnight blast occurred at Kentainers Company near Kabansora in Embakasi.

Government Spokesman Isaac Mwaura confirmed the incident, revealing that the explosion transpired during the gas cylinder refilling process at the Kentainers Company.

Mwaura stated, “The company was refilling gas cylinders when the fire broke out, and several people were injured and rushed to the hospital.

The building housing the company suffered extensive damage.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.”

Mwaura advised the public to steer clear of the affected area, emphasizing ongoing rescue efforts, including the deployment of fire engines.

According to preliminary data, at least 165 people sustained injuries in the explosion, as reported by The Standard.

The Kenya Red Cross issued a statement, noting the presence of a multi-agency response force at the scene actively combatting the flames.

It was disclosed that in 2020, Citizen TV reported on three individuals being apprehended at the same facility, subsequently declared an illegal gas-filling station by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).
