Police Arrest Three Individuals For Drug Possession In Garissa

In a recent crackdown on illegal drug activities in Garissa and its surrounding areas, three individuals were apprehended in the Mororo area.

They were found in possession of 353 stones of bhang, valued at Sh75,000.

This effort is part of the government’s broader initiative to combat drug abuse and illicit substance trade.

According to Bengali Sub-County Police OCPD Karani Ephrain, the operation targeted individuals involved in the illegal supply chain of narcotics, particularly in Madogo and Garissa towns.

One suspect believed to be the ringleader, managed to evade capture, but authorities are actively pursuing leads to apprehend him soon.

We have arrested three suspects and are pursuing the main suspect at large as we have information on where to get him with the ongoing operation together with NACADA as the government has directed us to undertake,” said Karani.

OCPD Karani also issued a stern warning to club owners operating in proximity to educational institutions, urging them to cease operations immediately.

This action aligns with government directives to curb drug-related activities near schools.

“We are going to close down clubs that are operating near schools and learning institutions following the government’s directive,” he affirmed.

North Eastern NACADA Regional Manager, Rev. Wangai Gachoka, highlighted the legal consequences awaiting individuals involved in drug peddling.

He emphasized that under the Psychotropic Substance Control Act of 1994, the government has the authority to seize properties and assets belonging to suspects engaged in the illicit drug trade.

“Using the Psychotropic Control Act of 1994, we will seize this building and three motorbikes proven to be transporting the substance,” noted Rev. Gachoka.

Rev. Gachoka also issued a warning to those involved in the illegal distribution of pharmaceuticals without proper prescriptions, urging them to halt their activities or face legal repercussions amid the ongoing operations.
