In Mowlem, Endebess Region of Transnzoia County, three individuals were wounded on Friday as police resorted to firing bullets and teargas to disperse protesting locals amid a longstanding land dispute.
The police asserted that their intervention aimed to enforce a court order regarding a four-decade-old land conflict.
The dispute arose as approximately 3000 residents sought to purchase land under private ownership, leading to prolonged disagreements.
Police commander Salasyo Mureithi stated that amidst the chaos, one resident sustained injuries from a machete, and the perpetrator has since been apprehended.
Dennis Baraza, a victim of the incident, recounted, “Ilikuwa kitu saa kumi na moja asubuhi polisi walikuja……hawakutaka kusema shida ni nini.
Walitutupia teargas, mama akaanza kupiga nduru ndio wakanipiga risasi mbili.”
The victim’s legal representative commented, “Kwa hivo sisi tumesema tunaenda kortini tupambane na sheria na tutashtaki OCPD.
Akuje aeleze Court ni order gani alikuwa anatumia kuevict watu.”
