TISA Coordinator Asks: Where Is The Impeachment Motion Against Ruto For Constitutional Violations?

Diana Gichengo, the national coordinator of The Institute for Social Accountability (TISA), has called for a parallel impeachment motion against President William Ruto, asserting that he has also violated the Constitution.

During her appearance on the Citizen Daybreak show on Monday, Gichengo argued that both Ruto and his cabinet members have breached the law and should not be excused while Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua faces impeachment proceedings for similar violations.

“The President has violated the Constitution; where is his impeachment motion?

Those in the cabinet previously have also violated the Constitution and faced the same Parliament.

Have we forgotten the standards we are being held to?” she stated.

Gichengo urged Kenyans to continue advocating for accountability, emphasizing that anyone who grossly violates the Constitution should be removed from office, regardless of their position.

“Let us persist in demanding what we deserve as a nation: that anyone who continues to mock us with blatant constitutional violations must vacate their office at all levels,” she added.

Deputy President Gachagua has been accused of violating multiple articles of the Constitution, including Articles 147, 148, 174, 186, and 189, which pertain to his duties and responsibilities as the principal assistant to the President.

He has also been alleged to have corruptly acquired assets across the country.

The impeachment motion was submitted to the National Assembly after 291 Members of Parliament signed in favor of Gachagua’s ousting.

Public participation sessions held on Friday and Saturday revealed that some citizens are also calling for President Ruto’s removal, citing failures in governance.

Gachagua is expected to defend himself in both Parliament and court this week as the House considers the impeachment motion.

Meanwhile, he has asked for forgiveness from President Ruto, Members of Parliament, and the public for any wrongdoings.

“I want to say to my brother, President William Ruto, if in our zeal to work, I have wronged you, please find it in your heart to forgive me.

If my spouse, in her duties with the boychild, has wronged you in any way, please find it in your heart to forgive her,” he pleaded during a church service on Sunday.
