Deputy Minority Whip in the Senate Edwin Sifuna has penned a letter seeking clarification from key stakeholders regarding the delayed reopening of Uhuru Gardens.
Addressed to CS Defense Aden Duale and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, the letter, dated February 17, as obtained by Eagles News Feed, expresses Sifuna’s concerns over the continued closure of Uhuru Gardens despite previous agreements for its reopening.
“At a meeting between the Niarobi Governor, myself and the KDF personnel in charge of refurbishment of Uhuru Park held on October 13, 2023 at the facility, it was confirmed that indeed all works had been completed and that the facility would be opened to the public in December 2023,” the letter read in part.
“Close to four months later the facility remains inaccessible occasioning great inconvenience to the residents of Nairobi and the thousands of visitors the city received on a daily basis,” the letter continues.
Sifuna poses critical questions to CS Duale, seeking clarity on whether ongoing works are still being conducted at the facility and whether control of the park has been handed back to the county government as previously planned.
ODM Secretary General has urged the authorities to address any underlying issues that may be contributing to the delay in reopening Uhuru Gardens.
