Ruto Congratulates Tanzania’s Samia Suluhu on Re-Election, Urges Calm after Disputed Poll


President William Ruto has sent a message of congratulations to Tanzania’s president-elect, Samia Suluhu Hassan, following her landslide victory in the country’s presidential election, which was marred by tension and unrest.

According to official results released by the electoral commission, Suluhu garnered about 31.9 million votes, representing an overwhelming 97.66% of the total ballots cast. The poll saw an impressive voter turnout of nearly 87% from the 37.6 million registered voters across the country.

In a statement issued on Monday, November 3, President Ruto hailed Suluhu’s re-election, acknowledging the deep-rooted ties between Kenya and Tanzania.

“On behalf of the government and the people of the Republic of Kenya, and on my own behalf, I extend warm congratulations to Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan on her re-election in the General Election held on October 29, 2025,” Ruto said.

He further emphasised the importance of continued cooperation between the two nations, noting that Kenya and Tanzania’s relationship is built on shared history and mutual aspirations for prosperity and stability within the East African Community (EAC).

Amid reports of post-election protests, Ruto urged Tanzanians to maintain peace and respect the rule of law as the country navigates its political transition. He appealed to political leaders and citizens alike to engage in dialogue and tolerance to preserve national unity.

“I call upon the patriotic people of Tanzania to uphold peace and the rule of law. I encourage all political actors and stakeholders to embrace dialogue and tolerance as they address any arising concerns to safeguard democracy and stability,” Ruto added.

He reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to working alongside Tanzania in promoting a peaceful, prosperous, and integrated East Africa.
