Afreximbank Launches US$250m Headquarters and African Trade Centre in Egypt’s New Capital

Afreximbank has officially launched construction of its new US$250 million headquarters and African Trade Centre in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital, marking a major expansion of the bank’s physical footprint.

The Afreximbank African Trade Centre (AATC), located in the Diplomatic District around 45 kilometres east of Cairo, will house the lender’s global headquarters alongside a 110-room hotel and six fully serviced residential villas.

Construction has been awarded to Hassan Allam Construction, part of Hassan Allam Holding. The firm will oversee all civil works, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, landscaping, as well as the supply and installation of furniture, fixtures and equipment.

The Cairo project forms part of Afreximbank’s wider strategy to establish a network of African Trade Centres in key commercial hubs across Africa and the Caribbean.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Afreximbank President and Board Chair Dr George Elombi said the centre is designed to do more than accommodate the bank’s growth. He noted that it aims to tackle long-standing gaps in trade and investment information that have constrained intra-African commerce for decades.

Once completed, the complex will include a trade information centre, a world-class library and knowledge hub, a corporate museum, an innovation and SME incubation centre, a business centre, a 750-seat conference facility, an exhibition hall, retail and dining spaces, extensive support infrastructure and parking for up to 1,200 vehicles.

The Cairo AATC is scheduled for completion in early 2029. Its construction follows the groundbreaking of the Barbados AATC in March 2025 and the official opening of the Abuja centre in April 2025.

Additional African Trade Centres are planned for Kampala, Abidjan, Yaoundé, Kigali and Tunis, reinforcing Afreximbank’s ambition to anchor trade and investment support across the continent.
