Biden Wants To Stop Chinese Cars Coming To America.

President Joe Biden is being told to stop Chinese cars from coming into the US forever.

Senator Sherrod Brown, who heads the Senate Banking Committee, said, “Chinese electric vehicles are a big danger to the American auto industry.”

Senator Brown’s words are the strongest so far from any US lawmaker about this.

Others want heavy taxes to keep Chinese electric cars out of America.

In February, the White House said they were checking if Chinese cars could harm US national security.

Senator Brown said in a video on a social media site, “We can’t let China cheat our auto industry.”

Senator Brown is from Ohio, a state where lots of cars are made. He’s trying to win his fourth term in the election this November.

The White House didn’t reply right away when the BBC asked for a comment.

In February, President Biden said China’s plans “might fill our market with its cars, which is risky for our safety,” and he won’t allow it while he’s in charge.

Washington might put limits because they’re worried Chinese cars could gather lots of private data from their drivers and passengers, the White House warned.

These cars connect to the internet and can record info about US infrastructure, they said.

China makes the most cars in the world and is trying to beat Japan in exporting them.

Also, on Thursday, big US airlines asked President Biden to stop allowing new flights between the US and China.

They wrote to the Secretary of State and the Transportation Secretary, saying China’s unfair rules hurt US airlines.

If China’s aviation market keeps growing without fairness, US airlines will lose flights to Chinese airlines, they said.

The US and China have been fighting about trade since 2018 when Trump put taxes on lots of Chinese stuff.

China hit back with taxes on US things.

President Biden has mostly kept those taxes in place.

Last year, the US bought less stuff from China, but China bought even less from the US.
