Four members of David Maraga’s presidential campaign team were involved in a road accident on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, as they travelled from Nyamira to Nairobi.
In an official statement released that evening, Maraga confirmed that the four individuals were immediately rushed to hospital to receive urgent medical care.
“We have been informed of a severe road accident involving four members of our campaign team. They have all been transported to a medical facility for treatment,” the statement partly read. “The four were returning to Nairobi after accompanying the UGM Party Presidential Aspirant, CJ (Emeritus) Maraga, on campaign activities.”
According to the former Chief Justice, the accident occurred when a lorry lost control, veered off its lane, and collided with the vehicle carrying the four campaign members.
Maraga further stated that he is closely monitoring the situation and appealed to Kenyans to keep the injured in their thoughts and prayers. “We are following developments closely, in touch with our colleagues, and we ask that you keep them in your prayers as doctors and nurses provide treatment,” he added.
This accident comes just days after another serious collision on the Nairobi-Naivasha Highway, where several people were injured when a passenger bus collided with a lorry. That incident caused significant disruption along one of the busiest transport corridors in the country, particularly during the holiday season.

Eyewitness reports from the Nairobi-Naivasha Highway accident indicated that the lorry veered into the oncoming lane, striking the bus with considerable force. The most severe damage was sustained at the front of the bus, leaving the driver and passengers seated in the front rows with injuries.
Rainy conditions at the time of the crash reportedly contributed to the difficulty of the rescue operation and may have exacerbated the severity of the collision. Emergency response teams were swiftly deployed to provide first aid and evacuate the injured to nearby hospitals.
