Man Is Killed In Cement Factory Accident In Athi River, Machakos County


Police in Athi River, Machakos County, are investigating the death of a 25-year-old casual worker who died following an industrial accident at a cement factory.

According to the police, the victim, identified as Felix Kipchumba Yego, was working at Savannah Cement under a contractor, Voyance Company Limited, when the incident occurred on Thursday afternoon.

Investigators said the deceased was servicing the factory’s bucket elevator at the rooftop, approximately 36 metres high, when the equipment reportedly collapsed and trapped him inside.

The company management managed to retrieve him at around 3:20pm while unconscious and rushed him to Kitengela Medical Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police officers visited the scene and established that the deceased had sustained visible head injuries and a fractured left arm at the humerus bone.

Crime scene investigators processed the area before the body was transferred to Shalom Community Hospital mortuary pending postmortem examination.

Investigations into the workplace accident are ongoing.

And police in Kandara, Murang’a County, are investigating the sudden death of a 40-year-old woman who collapsed outside her business premises at Makenji Shopping Centre.

The incident occurred on Friday morning at around 8:30am.

The deceased was identified as Easter Nyambura Njau, who reportedly collapsed outside her business premises known as Small Villa Club.

Police officers accompanied by crime scene investigators visited the scene and found the body lying in a supine position with no visible physical injuries.

The scene was processed by Scene of Crime personnel as investigations into the cause of death commenced.

The body was transferred to General Kago Mortuary awaiting postmortem examination.

And police in Matungulu, Machakos County, are investigating the murder of a 45-year-old man whose body was discovered in a grazing field.

According to the police, herdsmen tending cattle in the area alerted authorities after spotting the body lying in the field.

Police visited the scene and identified the deceased as Peter Mutiso Ndunda through an identity card recovered from his possession.

Police said the body had visible strangulation marks around the neck believed to have been caused by a wire.

The deceased also had bruises on both arms and blood was seen oozing from his nose.

Investigators noted that there were no signs of a struggle at the scene, leading to suspicions that the man may have been killed elsewhere before the body was dumped in the field.

The scene was processed and documented before the body was transferred to the Kangundo Hospitalmortuary awaiting postmortem examination.

Police said investigations into the killing are ongoing.
