Man Killed, Body Abandoned On Roadside In Taveta, Taita Taveta County


Police in Taveta, Taita Taveta County, have launched investigations into the killing of a man whose body was found lying by the roadside near Challa Hotel in Ngarighashi area.

The body of the deceased man, aged about 30 years and only identified by the alias “Kamwana”, was found with deep cuts to the head and a broken left leg on Saturday.

Police said the motive behind the killing had not been immediately established, although locals alleged that the deceased was a suspected serial thief within the area.

Crime scene officers photographed and documented the scene before the body was transferred to the Taveta Sub-County Hospital mortuary awaiting formal identification and postmortem examination.

Investigations into the murder are ongoing.

Elsewhere, police in Bondo, Siaya County, have launched investigations following the discovery of what is believed to be the skull of an infant wrapped in cloth in Awello village.

According to the police, the remains were discovered on Friday afternoon at Barkowino Sub-location in Bondo Township.

Investigators said a local resident had hired two casual labourers to clear a thicket near his compound when they stumbled upon the skull, which had been wrapped in a green leso.

Police officers who visited the scene also recovered assorted children’s clothing nearby, raising suspicion that the infant’s body may have been dumped at the location after death.

The scene was processed by investigators and the remains were transferred to the Bondo Sub-County Hospital mortuary for preservation and further examination.

Police said investigations are ongoing to establish the identity of the infant and circumstances surrounding the incident.

And three people died in separate cases of drowning, police said.

One happened in Meru, another in Machakos and the other in Uasin Gishu County.

The bodies were moved to the mortuaries for autopsy and other procedures after the May 16 incidents.

More than 200 people have been killed in separate drowning incidents in the past three months while hundreds others were displaced.
