A 25-year-old man was killed in a suspected gang revenge attack in Nakuru West Sub-County on Sunday night.
Police said Kevin Wambobwa was attacked by a group of about 12 young men riding on six motorcycles at Posta Mauki area within Rhonda at about 9pm.
According to police, the gang, identified by residents as the “TZ Group”, descended on people at a stage area, forcing traders and kiosk operators to flee for safety.
During the chaos, Wambobwa reportedly fell down and was cornered by the attackers, who stabbed him several times in the abdomen and forehead.
He was rescued by a colleague and rushed to Nakuru Level Five Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police suspect the killing was linked to an earlier attack during a funeral harambee in the same area at around 5.30pm, where a woman was reportedly injured by members of another gang known as “Mauki”.
Investigators said the Mauki gang is allegedly led by a man identified only as Michael, who is said to be facing a robbery with violence case in court and is currently out on bond.
The scene was visited by police and the body was moved to the mortuary pending postmortem examinations as investigations into the murder and gang activities in the area continue.
The gangs in Nakuru are emerging as a major threat to stability amid efforts to contain the trend.
Special squads are combing the area to crack down on the gangs, police headquarters said on Monday.
Meanwhile, a four suspects, previously intercepted with a lethal homemade firearm and a cache of crude weapons, were positively identified as the monsters behind a harrowing carjacking and gang-rape ordeal in Kisii Town.
The incident began at Mocheche Avenue, where a young man and his girlfriend were in their car when six individuals attacked them.
Armed to the teeth the gang shattered the peace, forcing their way into the vehicle and seizing control.
What followed was a calculated trail of cruelty as the victims were driven to a secluded thicket in Bobaracho where the thugs ransacked the car, pocketing Sh34,000 in cash and stripping them of every valuable in sight.
In a move of pure malice, the gang blindfolded the couple and stuffed them into the boot. After hours of aimless driving, they dumped the boyfriend at Mabundu area of Nyamira County, leaving him stranded while they sped off with his helpless girlfriend.
Far from the reach of help, the six men took turns gang-raping the victim before dumping her.
The suspects’ run of luck ended at Kisii Police Station during an identification parade, where the victim stood tall and positively identified her tormentors.
The quartet, identified as Peter Kuria, Moses Kariuki, Robert Omosa and Evans Makori are undergoing processing pending arraignment.
Police said they are investigating to establish more on the incident.
