Tom Ojienda Reveals ODM Spent Heavily on Mobilising Supporters for Kisumu Rally

Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda has disclosed that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) used substantial funds to transport supporters to its Wabiro rally held at Kirembe Grounds in Kisumu.

He explained that the party’s mobilisation structure involved coordinated financial support for elected leaders, with Members of County Assembly reportedly receiving about KSh 100,000 each to facilitate transport for supporters, while Members of Parliament were allocated approximately KSh 500,000.

The senator noted that the large turnout at the rally was the result of deliberate planning by party officials and grassroots mobilisation efforts, which helped draw crowds from across Kisumu.

Ojienda, however, said he was not directly involved in the organisation of the event, citing his engagement in legal work tied to the impeachment proceedings against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. He credited Homa Bay Governor and ODM National Chairperson Gladys Wanga with leading much of the planning.

He described the rally as a major political gathering that saw supporters arrive using buses, tractors, and on foot, many dressed in ODM colours, reflecting strong grassroots enthusiasm.

According to him, while the party facilitated logistics for mobilisation, he personally did not receive any funds for the exercise.

The remarks have offered a rare insight into the scale of organisation and financial coordination behind ODM’s major political events in the region.
