Police have launched investigations after the decomposed body of an unidentified woman was recovered from the River Tana in Ndithini Sub-county, Machakos County.
The body was found floating in the river at Kasovilo Sub-location.
Police said the deceased was an unidentified African adult female.
The body was in an advanced state of decomposition, and the tongue was protruding from the mouth at the time it was recovered.
Crime scene officers processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to Murang’a Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination and identification.
Police have classified the case as a pending under investigation (PUI) as detectives work to establish the woman’s identity and the circumstances surrounding her death.
21-year-old man drowns while watering cattle in Homa Bay
And a 21-year-old man drowned while watering cattle at River Kandaya in Rangwe Sub-county, Homa Bay County.
According to police, the incident was reported on Tuesday after the deceased’s brother informed officers that Christopher Ochieng Ogola had taken a herd of cattle to the river but failed to return home.
The brother later received information from a neighbour that Christopher had drowned in the river.
Police officers visited and documented the scene.
Preliminary investigations established that Christopher had a history of epilepsy before his death. Police said an examination of the body at the scene revealed no visible physical injuries.
The body was moved to the Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.
And police in Samburu, Kwale County, rescued two people accused of practising witchcraft after they were cornered by an angry mob over claims that a man’s private parts had mysteriously disappeared.
According to police, the two suspects, aged 53 and 26, were accused after allegedly greeting a man, who later claimed that his genitalia had disappeared.
The suspects were cornered near Rahman Mosque in Samburu Township before officers from Samburu Police Station responded and rescued them from the crowd.
Police said the situation escalated as officers escorted the suspects to the station, with an increasingly hostile mob following and nearly overwhelming the officers upon arrival.
The Samburu Sub-county Deputy County Commissioner, Patrick Kilonzo, addressed the crowd in an effort to calm the situation.
However, police said the mob continued demanding that the two suspects be released.
Reinforcements from Taru Police Station, Mackinnon Road Police Station and the General Service Unit (GSU) camp at Mackinnon were deployed and succeeded in dispersing the crowd.
The two suspects were later escorted to Mariakani Sub-County Hospital, while the complainant, Tsuma Mwavadu Leli, was taken to Samburu Sub-County Hospital.
Police have not announced any charges, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Authorities have not verified the allegation regarding the disappearance of the complainant’s private parts. Such claims are often associated with superstition or mass panic, and the circumstances surrounding the complaint remain under investigation.
