Acting IG Masengeli Interdicts Eight Officers After Detainee Escape

Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli has interdicted eight officers from the National Police Service following the escape of Collins Jumaisi, the prime suspect in the Kware killings, and twelve other detainees.

Masengeli announced that among those suspended are the Gigiri Sub-county commander, the Officer Commanding Station (OCS), and the report officers.

They are now in police custody in connection with the early Tuesday morning escape. The acting IG described the incident as “an inside job.”

Masengeli, accompanied by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) chief Amin Mohamed and

Kenya Police Service Deputy Inspector General Eliud Langat, conducted a security operation at Gigiri Police Station to investigate the escape.

They reviewed the situation and examined how the suspects managed to disappear.

The acting IG stated that a search operation is ongoing and expressed confidence that the fugitives will be recaptured.

Authorities are currently analyzing CCTV footage to provide investigators with further insights into the incident.

Jumaisi, who gained notoriety after being paraded by police, had previously confessed to the media that he killed at least 42 women and disposed of their bodies in Kware between 2022 and 2024.

He claimed his first victim was his wife, whom he allegedly strangled, dismembered, and left at a dumpsite.

Jumaisi later alleged in court that his confessions were obtained under torture and coercion by the police.
