In Afghanistan, another strong earthquake shook the same area just a few days after a 6.3 magnitude quake caused the loss of more than 1,000 lives.

This new earthquake, with the same force, occurred at about 05:10 in the morning local time (00:40 GMT) on a Wednesday.

It happened 28 kilometers (around 17 miles) north of the city of Herat.

We’re still unsure about the full extent of the damage this latest earthquake has caused.

However, many people have been forced to sleep outside because their homes were destroyed by the earthquake on Saturday.

There’s also a shortage of essential items like blankets, food, and other supplies.

The earthquake on Saturday struck a place called Zindajan, a rural area about 40 kilometers (approximately 25 miles) away from Herat city.

Pictures from the villages in this region reveal that many houses, which weren’t sturdy enough to endure such a powerful quake, have turned into piles of rubble.

Afghanistan often experiences earthquakes, particularly in the Hindu Kush mountain range.

This is because the country is situated near the meeting point of two major tectonic plates: the Eurasian and the Indian plates.
