At least nine people were Tuesday killed in a grisly road accident in the Koguta area on the Londiani Junction-Muhoroni Road.
Police said a Nissan matatu traveling towards Kisumu collided head-on with a lorry going in the opposite direction.
Kericho County Police Commander Geoffrey Mayek confirmed that five of the deceased were men, while four were women.
All the casualties were aboard the Public Service Vehicle (PSV).
He said police are searching for the lorry driver, who fled the scene after the accident.
Three injured victims were rushed to Kericho County Referral Hospital for treatment.
The PSV driver was among those who died.
Witnesses eported that the lorry driver was speeding and collided with the matatu while attempting to avoid potholes on the road.
Police said they are investigating the accident.
The team that attended the scene blamed speeding and overtaking for the accident.
This is the latest accident to happen in the latest series to be reported.
The National Transport and Safety Authority says the leading causes of fatal crashes included hit-and-runs, tyre bursts, and vehicles and motorcycles losing control.
Also overtaking improperly and failing to keep the proper lane resulting in head-on collisions are mentioned as causes.
More than 4,000 people are killed annually in accidents.
