Body Of Missing Ugandan Doctor Found In Shallow Grave In Kakamega

A suspect led police to a shallow grave he and other accomplices buried a Ugandan doctor who had been missing for a week while in Kenya.

Police said Dr. Gideon Wamasebu Simiyu, 62 has been missing for a week since he was abducted as he traveled to Kenya for an unknown mission.

On February 10, a suspect led police Machemo area where the grave was.

Police are guarding the shallow grave believed to be a place where the doctor could be buried in Kabras, Kakamega County.

Police followed blood stains to a river bank where a shallow grave had been dug.

Police suspect Dr Simiyu was killed and buried there after his kidnappers failed to receive the Sh4 million they wanted.

A team of police guarded the grave against Saturday up to Monday when they sought a court order to dig and exhume the body.

Police said a suspect led them to the site.

Preliminary investigations had shown the doctor traveled to Kenya a week ago in the company of a man who claimed to be a pastor.

He is said to have traveled to Kenya by public transport and told his family he was headed for Kakamega.

Simiyu later sent a distress call to his relatives saying his life was in danger.

He asked for Sh4 million to save his life.

The relatives say it was the last time he communicated with them.

Police said a suspect who had been using the doctor’s mobile phone number to send extortion text messages to relatives was arrested.

Officials from the Ugandan Embassy in Kenya were expected in Kimanget village in the Malava constituency to witness the exhumation of a body that had been buried secretly in a rural home by the murder suspect.

Police said they are yet to know the motive of the incident and that the suspect was well known to the medic and had visited him in Uganda on several occasions.
