Senate Speaker Amason Kingi gazetted a special sitting of the Senate to consider Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza’s impeachment.
Mwangaza was impeached last week by the local assembly and as per the law, the Senate is supposed to consider the impeachment within a week.
In the notice dated December 16, Kingi said the lawmakers would convene Tuesday, December 20 at 2.30 pm in the senate chambers.
“I have appointed Tuesday, December 20, 2022, as a day for the special sitting of the Senate,” the notice reads in part.
The setting follows the official notification of the speaker by Meru assembly speaker Solomon Bundi on the MCAs’ resolution on the governor’s impeachment on Thursday.
The impeachment was seen as controversial given the governor is yet to be in the office to warrant the claims against her.
She had also obtained orders to stop the impeachment but the assembly ignored them.
