The DCI have committed to implement the changes introduced in the enhanced Children’s Act 2022, which is an improvement of the existing act that has been in use for last two decades.
Director of Criminal Investigations Mohammed Amin said during the launch of the second Annual Child Justice Summit held at a city hotel they are ready to implement the changes.
While addressing participants Monday during the culmination of the two-day summit organised by the National Council on Administration of Justice Amin said the DCI’s Anti Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit would be at the forefront in the implementation of the progressive law aimed at curbing the mutating offences children.
“Our mandate as the country’s foremost investigative agency is to ensure that we enforce all laws including those pertaining to the protection of our children, a call of duty that we shall continue to execute without prejudice,” he said.
Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court Lady Justice Martha Koome called upon everyone to ensure equality and inclusion of all children, adding that the Children’s Act 2022 was the first law established through seeking viewsfrom children and encouraging their participation.
While thanking all the stakeholders for their collaboration and cooperation, the chief justice called upon them to ensure equality and inclusion of all children, explaining that the Judiciary has implemented the Child Justice Strategy, a process that will see every child get justice within the shortest time possible.
The two-day summit organised by the National Council on Administration of Justice brought together different stakeholders in the criminal justice system as well as other relevant agencies including the Council of Governors, the Directorate of Children’s Service, Witness Protection Agency, Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Legal Resource Foundation International Development Law Organization, United Nations Children’s Fund among others.
