Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is set to unveil fresh strategies aimed at tackling the issue of illicit alcohol sales and consumption across the nation.
The announcement, slated for today, will take place at approximately 10 am, with DP Gachagua addressing the media from his official residence in Karen.
Gachagua, who has been actively involved in combating drug abuse, particularly the sale of illicit brews in the Mt. Kenya region, is expected to introduce significant measures to address the problem.
According to reports, these measures are described as “far-reaching.”
In a recent statement, Gachagua underscored the severity of the situation, highlighting the loss of lives attributed to the consumption of illicit alcohol.

He has been at the forefront of efforts to curb this menace, emphasizing the need for decisive action.
One of Gachagua’s recent directives involved banning National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs) and police officers from owning bars—a move intended to eliminate potential conflicts of interest and curb illicit activities.
During a conference on illicit alcohol and drug eradication in Mombasa last week, Gachagua expressed disappointment with leaders in the Coast region for what he perceived as a lack of urgency in addressing the issue.
He contrasted this with leaders from the Rift Valley region, whom he commended for their vigilance in combating the illicit trade.
As part of his ongoing efforts, Gachagua has instructed security teams in various regions to intensify their efforts against narcotics barons.
He set a deadline of two weeks for the arrest and prosecution of these individuals, signaling a firm stance against those involved in the illicit drug trade.
