Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on the Council of Governors (CoG) and state agencies to expedite the settlement of pending bills for the 2022/23 fiscal year.
The call was made during the 22nd Ordinary session of the Intergovernmental Budget Economic Council (IBEC) meeting, held at Gachagua’s Karen residence on Monday, where he hosted the CoG, state agencies, and top government officials.
Gachagua emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring timely disbursements of funds to counties, revealing that payments are nearly up to date until December 2023.
He highlighted the importance of swift payments for goods and services, asserting that it injects funds into local economies and stimulates overall economic growth.

“Prompt payments for goods and services release funds to our people and spur economic growth for a better and vibrant economy. Let money circulate,” he urged.
Addressing the issue of corruption and its impact on the rising wage bill, Gachagua called for a collaborative effort between leaders and the national government.
He stressed the need to implement control measures to ensure the lawful use of public funds in procurement and expenditures.
“We must tackle the threats of a rising wage bill.
Corruption is a threat to both levels of government; let us work collectively to put in place control measures to monetize the use of public funds for procurement and expenditure to be within the law,” Gachagua stated.
Commending leaders for their support of the government’s ambitious plans to foster economic growth, Gachagua highlighted President William Ruto’s commitment to the success of devolution and improved service delivery to Kenyans.
