At least 11 people were in a road accident on Monday involving a bus and a lorry in the Othoo area in the Nyando sub-county along the Kisumu – Nairobi Highway.
Nyanza Regional Traffic Enforcement Officer Allan Mwangi confirmed the incident saying dozens of other passengers were admitted at Ahero Sub-county Hospital and others at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) with injuries following the 2:30 am accident.

The dead include two women, eight men, and a teenage boy.
Some 53 passengers suffered injuries as a result of the accident and were admitted to hospitals, police said.
Mwangi said the bus, which was heading towards Nairobi, was trying to overtake when it collided head-on with an oncoming lorry killing the 11 instantly.
Both vehicles have been towed to Ahero police station.
Fatal accidents are common on the stretch. More than 4,000 people are annually killed in accidents in the country which has a huge impact on families.
Many others are left with multiple injuries.
