A senior land official from Kiambu County was arrested on Thursday morning during a raid by detectives believed to be from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
The operation took place at the official’s residence in Nairobi, where investigators sought evidence related to ongoing inquiries into land-related corruption.
In addition to the Nairobi raid, sources indicate that the EACC detectives also executed a search warrant at another property in West Pokot County as part of their broader investigation.
The dual operations highlight the EACC’s commitment to tackling corruption within the land sector, which has been a persistent issue in Kenya.
EACC spokesperson Eric Ngumbi confirmed the arrest but declined to provide specific details regarding the nature of the investigation or the charges against the official.
“The Commission is unable to respond to your inquiry at this stage,” Ngumbi stated, indicating that more information may be released as the investigation unfolds.
The arrest has drawn attention to the ongoing efforts by the EACC to combat corruption, particularly in the land sector, which has seen numerous cases of fraud, illegal land acquisitions, and malpractices.
The commission has been under increasing pressure to enhance transparency and accountability in land dealings, especially given the significant impact land corruption has on economic development and social justice in the country.
As the investigation continues, many are awaiting further updates on the case, including any potential legal proceedings that may follow the arrest.
The EACC’s actions serve as a reminder of the importance of integrity in public service and the need for continued vigilance in the fight against corruption in Kenya.
