Eight police officers found themselves on the other side of the law after being apprehended on charges ranging from robbery to bribery.
The arrests, which took place on Thursday, shed light on the alleged involvement of law enforcement officials in criminal activities.
Among the accused is an officer detained at Kayole police station, implicated in the arrest of a university student, Ian Njoroge, aged 19.
Further investigations revealed that four of the arrested officers are under scrutiny for their suspected involvement in the theft of approximately shs. 2.2 million belonging to the Rophine International School in Utawala.
Notably, the group of officers was discovered in possession of sh. 473,000, purportedly part of the school’s allowances.
The arrests also included two civilians found in association with the officers.
According to the school’s money manager, the incident occurred when he was transporting funds for staff payments, only to be intercepted by criminals who broke into his vehicle and made away with the money.
Subsequent investigations, aided by surveillance camera footage, led to the apprehension of the suspects.
In a separate incident, an officer stationed at the Parliament Center faced arrest by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission for allegedly soliciting sh. 40,000 from an individual.
The arrest underscores the ongoing efforts to address corruption within various sectors, including law enforcement agencies.
These arrests serve as a stark reminder of the importance of upholding integrity and accountability within the police force.
As the investigations proceed, authorities are working to ensure that those responsible for criminal activities face justice, while also emphasizing the need for transparency and ethical conduct among law enforcement personnel.
