The body of Nicholas Kipkorir Ng’etich, a 29-year-old secondary school teacher, has been retrieved from River Yala and identified by his relatives.
Ng’etich, who taught at Emalindi Girls’ High School in Kakamega, was found at Ndanu Falls in River Yala on August 27, 2024.
It is suspected that he was abducted and murdered by unknown assailants.
The discovery came after a video shared on social media by human rights group Haki Africa showed a body being pulled from the river.
Concerned colleagues, including Cornelius Chumba, along with friends and family, used this footage to track the body to the Siaya County Referral Hospital mortuary.
There, they confirmed that the body belonged to Ng’etich, who had been missing since August 10, 2024.
Chumba, speaking to reporters at the mortuary, stated that Ng’etich had not drowned. Instead, he was murdered elsewhere before his body was disposed of in the river.
He noted that the body was in advanced stages of decomposition, indicating severe trauma and a violent death.
Ng’etich’s uncle, Samuel Rotich, expressed profound grief over the loss of his young and promising relative.
Rotich has urged security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation to bring those responsible for the murder to justice.
The case has drawn significant attention, highlighting concerns about violence and the need for effective law enforcement.
