Fisherman Is Found Killed In Lake Victoria Dispute In Migori

Detectives in Migori County are investigating the killing of a fisherman following a violent confrontation on Lake Victoria.

According to the police, the incident was reported on Thursday after the body of a man was discovered at Siginga Beach.

Police officers who visited the scene found the body of 40-year-old Kennedy Otieno Herman lying on a boat.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased had gone fishing earlier in the day with a friend and another man.

While out on the lake, the two reportedly became involved in a dispute with other
fishermen over a fishing net.

During the altercation, the group is said to have attacked Herman while aboard another fishing vessel identified as Sori Omena.

The assailants fled the scene immediately after the incident.

Police confirmed that the deceased sustained a stab wound to the abdomen, which is believed to have caused his death.

The scene was processed by investigators, and the body was moved to St. Camillus Mission Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination.

No arrests have been made so far, and police are pursuing the suspects as investigations into the incident continue.

Elsewhere, police in Bungoma County launched a manhunt for a suspect linked to the fatal assault of a 39-year-old man following a dispute over a stolen bicycle.

Police said the incident occurred on the night of April 15, 2026, at around 9:30 p.m.

The deceased, identified as David Wanjala Wafula, had reportedly returned home from a local market in the company of his neighbour, Wanjala Makhanu, when a disagreement arose between them over an earlier alleged bicycle theft.

During the altercation, the suspect is said to have armed himself with a wooden stick and assaulted Wafula, striking him several times.

The following day, the victim was taken to Mechimeru Model Health Centre for treatment and later discharged. However, he succumbed to his injuries while on his way home.

Police visited and processed the scene. The body, which had visible injuries, was moved to Bungoma Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination.

The suspect remains at large, with police intensifying efforts to trace and arrest him.
