Former Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed’s home in Kakamega County’s Milimani area has been demolished by the State as part of its initiative to create space for affordable housing projects.
Despite court orders and criticism from the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) in Kakamega, the demolition of structures continued, defying the legal interventions.
On Wednesday, the government proceeded with the demolitions, disregarding the court-issued orders.
Residents, however, supported the exercise, expressing that it provides job opportunities for the youth in the region.
They believe that the affordable housing projects will help address the housing deficit in the area.

One resident expressed gratitude to the government, stating, “I’d like to thank the government for the job it is doing.
Were it not for the demos, we wouldn’t have gotten something to eat today.
Youth are financially benefiting by participating in the demolitions.”
In November 2023, Kakamega Western Regional Commissioner Irungu Macharia defended the demolitions, emphasizing the government’s commitment to restoring public land for essential development projects.
The land recovery process began on September 1, with occupants receiving a vacate notice to relocate by November 23, when the demolition officially started.
Macharia addressed rumors about certain Milimani residents being spared from the demolitions, stating, “There’s no sacred cow in this operation.
Everyone who is there will face the demolitions. It doesn’t matter who you are, as long as you are on public land.”
