

Former Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha died on January 24 aged of 71.
Prof. George Magoha died at the Nairobi Hospital after collapsing at his Nairobi home.
Nairobi Hospital CEO James Nyamongi, in a statement to newsrooms, said: “Professor George Magoha collapsed at home and was rushed to the Nairobi Hospital A&E. Efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.”
The body of the deceased has since been transferred to the Lee Funeral Home.
He was sworn into office at the helm of the Education Ministry on March 26, 2019, and served up to October 27, 2022, when President William Ruto named his successor.
He only recently joined Maseno University as a professor in the Department of School of Medicine.
Maseno University Director of Public Relations Owen McOnyango told Citizen Digital on January 17, 2023, that the appointment takes effect immediately.
Dr. McOnyango said the university is optimistic that Prof George Magoha’s experience will elevate the department, adding that it is a good catch for Maseno.
He said Prof George Magoha is a renowned academic whose previous networks will be a plus to the university and beneficial to the medical students.
Prof. George Magoha had also previously served as Vice-Chancellor at the University of Nairobi and chairperson of Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) before joining the Cabinet.
