Former Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) Finance and ICT Manager, Noah Oluoch Oketch, has been apprehended by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
The arrest comes following allegations that Oketch employed counterfeit academic credentials to secure his position within the agency.
According to the EACC, Oketch is currently in custody at their police station for administrative procedures and is scheduled to appear in Milimani court.
The commission has highlighted REREC as one of the institutions grappling with issues of fraudulent academic and professional documentation.
In a recent development, the EACC issued a directive to the Head of Public Service and all civil service accounting officers, advising them against disbursing benefits to employees found with falsified academic qualifications upon resignation.
This measure aims to curb the prevalence of individuals with misrepresented credentials within the civil service.
Furthermore, the EACC has taken legal action to freeze assets, including over 100 properties and numerous vehicles, associated with a former Principal Land Registrar in Thika.
These assets are suspected to be linked to illicit activities.
A letter dated March 11, 2024, from the EACC underscores the urgency of halting payments to civil servants facing allegations of possessing fake academic and professional certificates, especially those who choose early retirement or resignation.
The commission’s proactive stance reflects its commitment to combating corruption and upholding integrity in public service.
