Haiti’s Prime Minister Garry Conille visited the National Police College Embakasi “A” Campus on Saturday, where he addressed officers undergoing pre-deployment training for an upcoming mission to Haiti.
During his visit, Conille expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Kenyan people for their sacrifices and support extended to Haiti.
He also conveyed his eagerness to meet the National Police Service (NPS) officers in Haiti.
Conille is in Kenya for a four-day official visit.
Since June, Kenyan police contingents have been deployed to Haiti to assist the local police in managing the escalating violence from gangs that have taken control of significant areas in the nation.
The Prime Minister began his day with a visit to the NPS Headquarters at Jogoo House “A,” where he was welcomed by Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua and Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja.
At the police college, IG Kanja noted that the 600 officers currently in training come from various specialized NPS units, including the General Service Unit (GSU), Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU), Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU), and an all-female Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT).
He assured the trainees that they would soon be ready for deployment to Haiti.
Kanja thanked the Prime Minister for his visit, emphasizing that it reinforces the ongoing cooperation between the Kenyan police and the Haitian National Police in their joint efforts to establish lasting peace and security in Haiti.
Also present at the event were National Security Adviser Monica Juma, Deputy Inspector General of Kenya Police Eliud Lagat, Deputy Inspector General of Administration Police Gilbert Masengeli, DCI Mohamed Amin, and other senior NPS commanders.
