Jada Pinkett Smith has spoken about how she and her husband, Will Smith, have been leading separate lives since 2016.
In a clip from an upcoming interview with Hoda Kotb on NBC News, she explained that they hadn’t announced their separation earlier because they weren’t ready to do so.
They were still trying to figure out how to be partners and how to share this with the world.
Jada Pinkett Smith, who is 52, and Will Smith, who is 55, have been married since 1997, but they are not legally divorced.
During this time of separation, their relationship has faced public scrutiny.
In July 2020, singer August Alsina revealed that he had been romantically involved with Jada Pinkett Smith
This was confirmed by Jada during an episode of their show, “Red Table Talk,” where she admitted, “I got into an entanglement with August.”
She explained that they were going through a very difficult time at that point.
Another incident that drew public attention was at the 2022 Academy Awards when Will Smith slapped presenter Chris Rock after a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair.
She suffers from alopecia, a condition that causes hair loss.
In a recent interview with People, Jada recalled that, at first, she thought it was a joke between the two men.
It wasn’t until Will walked back to his seat that she realized it was real.
She immediately asked him if he was okay.
Jada Pinkett Smith told Hoda Kotb during their interview that their marriage became strained due to many factors.
She mentioned that by 2016, they both felt exhausted from trying to make things work.
“I think by the time we got to 2016, we we both just exhausted with trying,” Pinkett Smith said.
“I think we were both kind of still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be.”
They had unrealistic expectations of each other, and this took a toll on their relationship.
Jada made a promise to herself that they would never divorce, and she still hasn’t been able to break that promise.
In her upcoming memoir, “Worthy,” released on October 17, Jada Pinkett Smith reveals more about her marriage, career, and early life.
The book promises to provide an intimate look into her experiences and perspectives.
