Kenya is gearing up to dispatch a contingent of 2,500 nurses to Saudi Arabia in the middle of January 2024, according to Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary (CS) Florence Bore.
The announcement follows the recent signing of a new Bilateral Labour Agreement (BLA) between Kenya and Saudi Arabia, outlining revised conditions for exporting human resources.
CS Bore emphasized the need to streamline the migrant worker process, ensuring the identification of suitable candidates, thorough processing, and ongoing monitoring after they arrive in Saudi Arabia.
She highlighted the importance of understanding the terms of the nurses’ contracts.

During a recent visit to Saudi Arabia, CS Bore secured opportunities for both diploma and degree nursing graduates. She stated, “We are processing them, and we should be able to complete the procedures by the middle of January, sending them to Saudi Arabia.”
To facilitate a smooth process, Bore has engaged with a Saudi Arabian labor recruiting agency, which will visit various recruiting agencies in Kenya.
The collaboration includes government representatives and private recruitment agencies.
Looking ahead, the signed BLA signifies Kenya’s intent to export more labor in the future.
CS Bore expressed optimism about expanding opportunities for Kenyan workers, even considering the establishment of a dedicated desk at the airport for migrant workers heading to Saudi Arabia.
Kenya has a history of exporting approximately 200,000 workers to Saudi Arabia, encompassing both domestic and skilled labor.
