Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria shared photos of discounts at a supermarket, suggesting that lower prices meant the cost of living was improving. However, many Kenyans disagreed with his view.
Kuria posted pictures of reduced prices on items like rice, sugar, and cooking oil.
These are things people use every day, and their prices have been going up recently.
People on the internet criticized Kuria, saying he was trying to deceive them.
They knew the discounts were just the supermarket’s regular promotions, not a sign of lower living costs.

One person, @kafangi, sarcastically said, “Offers ndio unasema food prices are coming down, sometimes mimi huona kama huwa unatuchekelea!”
Another person pointed out that these promotions happened weekly and didn’t mean prices were decreasing.
Someone named @mosesonyango asked how Kuria could link these supermarket deals to the government working to lower prices for ordinary people.
“Surely Moses! This supermarket has weekly promotions on selected items to push stock.
How do you equate this to the prices of goods coming down and GOK working for Wanjiku?”
Kuria has a history of getting into arguments online and offline with different groups in Kenya.
His statements, often made without much thought, have led to him facing heavy criticism and having to delete his posts.
