A Nairobi court has decided to release Abdi Yusuf on a Ksh. 300,000 cash bail.
The prosecution claims that Abdi Yusuf is somehow linked to Mohamed Kuno, also known as Gamadhere, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the Garissa attack.
In a ruling made on Thursday, Magistrate Agnes Mwangi stated that the accusations against Abdi Yusuf have not been proven.
Therefore, it would not be fair to keep him in custody without evidence.
The case against Abdi Yusuf involves charges related to him obtaining a National ID card by falsely claiming to be the son of Ralia Mohammed Wardere, also known as Iron Lady, which he knew was not true.
The court emphasized that there is no concrete evidence to support the claim that he is a Somali national; it remains an allegation at this point.
Additionally, Abdi Yusuf is accused of forging the mentioned ID card and being in the country without proper authorization.
He has also pleaded not guilty to another charge of presenting the ID card as genuine.
The investigating officer in this case, while requesting that the court deny bail to Abdi Yusuf, asserted that he used an identification card belonging to Abdi Yusuf Ali, who is the brother of Mohammed Kuno, alias Sheikh Mahamud, aka Gamadhere.
Mohammed Kuno is alleged to be the mastermind behind the Garissa University attack.
Previously, Abdi Yusuf was charged with obtaining 5.6 million shillings from businessman Hassan Ali Hassa by falsely claiming that he could import various cosmetics, Nutella, chocolates, and optimal from Europe, a fact he knew was untrue.
Abdi Yusuf has been released on a cash bail of Ksh. 300,000, and the case is scheduled for mention on October 12.
