Prof. Kithure Kindiki has officially assumed the role of Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, becoming the third individual to hold this position since the adoption of the 2010 Constitution.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre and was overseen by Chief Justice Martha Koome.
In accordance with the Assumption of Office Act, Kindiki took two significant oaths: the oath of allegiance and the oath of due execution of the office.
The solemn event unfolded shortly before 11 a.m., with Kindiki affirming his commitment to fulfill his duties in line with the law.
After the oaths were taken, they were sent to the Chief Justice, who countersigned them along with Kindiki.
Court officials then applied the Chief Justice’s seal to the documents before they were submitted to the Attorney General for official storage.
The ceremony continued with President William Ruto being called to the stage by the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary for the formal handover of the Constitution of Kenya to the newly sworn-in Deputy President.
This moment signifies the transfer of authority and responsibility.
The event wrapped up with a photo session that included both the President and his Deputy, along with a group shot featuring the Chief Justice, the First Lady, and Kindiki’s spouse, capturing the momentous occasion.
Kindiki steps into this important role following the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua, who was removed from office by Parliament due to serious breaches of the Constitution.
His appointment is seen as a pivotal moment in Kenya’s political landscape as he embarks on his new responsibilities.
