Labour CS Alfred Mutua Meets NSSF Leadership In Nairobi On August 20, 2024


On Tuesday, August 20, 2024, Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua met with the leadership of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) in Nairobi.

Mutua shared details of the meeting through his official social media accounts, noting that NSSF Chief Executive Officer (CEO) David Koros and Chairman David Njeru had paid him a courtesy visit.

During the meeting, he was briefed on the fund’s current initiatives and challenges.

In his statement on X, Mutua highlighted that the discussions covered strategies to expand NSSF membership, enhance service delivery, and improve the fund’s financial sustainability.

He emphasized the importance of supporting NSSF’s mission to secure the financial well-being of Kenyan workers and agreed on the necessity of continued government-NSSF collaboration to strengthen social security in the country.

“We discussed strategies to expand membership, improve service delivery, and enhance financial sustainability.

I emphasized the importance of supporting NSSF’s efforts to safeguard workers’ financial well-being and agreed on the need for ongoing collaboration to reinforce social security in Kenya. Mbele iko sawa,” Mutua wrote.

Additionally, Mutua met with Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli to address long-standing labor issues.

During their discussion, Mutua assured Atwoli that the government is progressing with the minimum wage increment and anticipates soon gazettement.

“I am seized of the matter, and progress is good.

The gazettement should happen soon,” Mutua stated.

He also noted that there are currently 452,000 job opportunities available in various countries and assured that the government is committed to helping Kenyans access these opportunities.

Mutua announced that he will convene a high-level meeting with employment agencies starting Wednesday, August 21, 2024.

This meeting will focus on addressing concerns related to the mistreatment of Kenyan workers abroad and ensuring the protection of their rights.
