Police are investigating an incident in which a form one student died by suicide in Mogoroka village, Nyamira County.
This was because of a lack of school fees to enable him to continue with his studies, officials and the family said.
The body of the 20-year-old student at the Bobaracho Secondary was found hanging on a rope in his house on January 15.
The family cited a lack of school fees as the cause of the suicide.
Police visited the scene and moved the body to the Sengera Hospital Morgue for preservation and postmortem.

The government has been declaring no student should be sent away from school for lack of school fees.
A team was sent to the school and home for investigation into the tragedy.
Police say the trend has been worrying and increasing as up to two cases are reported daily.
The World Health Organisation says such cases are attributed to joblessness, death, academic failures or pressures, legal difficulties, and financial difficulties.
Other reasons are bullying, previous suicide attempts, history of suicide in a family, alcoholism and substance misuse, depression, and bipolar disorder.
WHO rates suicide as a serious global public health issue that is among the top 20 leading causes of death worldwide.
